What happened
A buyer on a resale site, or a "customer" for your shop, offers to pay in advance. Instead of paying, they send a collect request or a QR code and ask you to "approve" or "scan to receive". The moment you enter your UPI PIN, money leaves your account.
Red flags
- Any instruction to enter your UPI PIN in order to receive money.
- A QR code sent for you to scan "to get your payment".
- A buyer who insists on paying outside the platform, or who pushes you to hurry.
- "Refund" requests for a payment you never received.
Your UPI PIN is only for sending money. Receiving never needs a PIN.
What to do now
- Decline the request. Check the app: if the screen asks for your PIN, it is a payment, not a receipt.
- Check your balance, not the sender's screenshot. Screenshots are easy to fake.
- If money has left your account, call 1930 and tell your bank at once.
